History

a+f GmbH is steadily expanding with the SunCarrier – since 2004

1983
The company was founded in Würzburg. The company originally distributes processed cast iron, steel and aluminum parts.

1996
The GILDEMEISTER group acquires majority stake-holding in a&f Stahl und Maschinenbau GmbH.

2003
The GILDEMEISTER group completely takes over the a&f Stahl- und Maschinenbau GmbH.

2004
In September the product development of the first SunCarrier 220 began. A robust, low-maintenance and reliable tracking system was the goal. Experience and know-how of a+f GmbH in mechanical engineering soon proved to be useful for the construction. After wind-tunnel-testing, the first 3 SunCarrier have been installed in Würzburg and a 2-year-testing phase began.

2005
Utility model registered for the SunCarrier tracking system and registration of the SunCarrier as European patent. The tracking systems installed in Würzburg turned out to be very efficient – one SunCarrier (module surface 220 m², module output installed: 30 kWp) is able to supply 12 households in Würzburg with electrical power (assuming an average consumption of 3,500 kWp per year per household).

2006
With the SunCarrier 250, a refined version of the SunCarrier 220 is installed for the first time in Bielefeld (module surface 250 m²).

2007
a&f Stahl- und Maschinenbau GmbH changed its name to a+f GmbH. The SunCarrier 250 is the only tracking system to fulfill the requirements of the German armed forces, and is installed in barracks across the country. Through the entry into the Spanish and Greek markets a+f GmbH continues the expansion policy.
The SunCarrier 260 is launched.
In addition in the last quarter of the same year the first SunCarrier are installed in northern Italy and South Korea.

2008
Introduction of the SunCarrier 300, designed for the southern European market, at the Intersolar trade fair in Munich.
a+f GmbH installs more than a dozen large solar power plants, with a total output of more than 45 MWp, in Spain. Numerous small and medium-sized power plants supply electrical energy to the German grid.
In the third quarter of the year, the first solar power plant is completed in South Korea, with an output of 2.1 MWp.

2009
Constant expansion and opening of the new Center of Excellence in Würzburg-Lengfeld. Launch of the SkyCarrier Series comprising the SkyCarrier 250 at the Grand Opening. At the Intersolar trade fair, world premiere of the SkyCarrier 1000 as well as the SunCarrier 160.
Foundation of the a+f subsidiaries in the USA, Spain and Italy.
Installation of the first solar power plants in Bulgaria, China, India, the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates.

As of today, more than 30,000 four-person-households are being provided with electrical energy from solar power plants of a+f GmbH.
